This was originally going to cover the latest episodes of My Little Pony and Young Justice, but apparently there was no new MLP episode on Saturday, so that kind of nipped that in the bud. I will briefly cover the new Young Justice episode at the end of this entry, though, so not to worry in that regard, my friends.
As for what’s to come: these entries are likely to become a lot lengthier and more crowded in the next few weeks, particularly this coming Monday. I’ll be picking up Elementary’s new episodes along with the previously established usuals–MLP, Young Justice, and Once Upon a Time–and to make things even more hectic, Community is finally, finally returning to NBC on Thursday. Thankfully, MLP will be done with its third season in two episodes, which will make things a bit easier, not to mention the brief on-and-off hiatuses that most network shows go on, but things are going to be hectic. Nevertheless, I’ll try and give my best report on each new episode to come.
To complicate things, as I have discussed previously, Doctor Who is returning on March 30, for eight weeks, which is naturally right in the middle of network TV’s big run-up to the finales. I’m planning to individually review each of the Series 7 episodes so far starting this Friday, as a bit of preparation for the show’s return. I don’t know yet if I’ll incorporate my reviews of the new episodes into my weekly round-ups; to be honest, I’d rather have the space to talk at length about DW. I’ll let you know regardless.
In other news: MLP has apparently been renewed for a fourth, 26-episode season, but there is of course no telling when those episodes will begin to air, since the “seasons” of animated programs aren’t as set in stone as those of the live action networks. Regardless, I will cover those episodes when the time comes, believe me. On a related note, I don’t think it’s likely that Young Justice is going to be renewed for a third season, which means that in six weeks’ time, when episode 20 of season 2 airs, the show will be done for good. It makes me sad, to be sure, not least because it’s such a spectacular show that I’m sure can go in dozens of amazing directions. I might write a bit of a retrospective on the show after the finale; we’ll have to see how my writing bug feels then.
And now, at last, my review of last week’s Young Justice:
Young Justice, Season 2, Episode 14: The Runaways
I hate this show. (Which is to say I love this show.)
I liked that this episode shifted focus to some of the teens rescued by the Team in 2×10: Virgil Hawkins, Eduardo Dorado, Asami Koizumi, and Jaime’s previously seen friend Tye Longshadow. Each of them have developed superpowers thanks to the Reach’s experimenting on them, and apparently since their rescue they’ve been detained at Star Labs in order to develop their powers and get them under control. At least until Virgil convinces the other three to break out. Nightwing sends Jaime to intercept them as Blue Beetle, which works (only after Jaime reveals his identity to them to win their trust) until Star Labs is attacked by Red Volcano (making a return appearance after Season 1)–
–and okay look, stuff happens, Jaime is kind of unnerving throughout the entire fight, and the teens beat a hasty retreat after Volcano is neutralized and Jaime’s distracted by the press, and then they get cornered by Lex Luthor, who apparently set up the whole Volcano thing and the press thing and wants to help them (haha, yeah right).
And then. Jaime is off talking to the Green Beetle from the last couple of episodes about the fight. Which is fine, right up until the Reach’s Black Beetle shows up and OH HEY IT TURNS OUT GREEN FIXING JAIME IN THE LAST EP WAS ACTUALLY PUTTING HIM BACK UNDER REACH CONTROL BECAUSE GREEN IS A REACH AGENT TOO AND NOTHING IS OKAY OKAY ABSOLUTELY NOTHING IS OKAY AND I HATE THIS SHOW I HATE THIS SHOW I HATE THIS SHOW I DID NOT WANT THIS TO BE THE WAY THIS HAPPENED AND I AM SUPER TRIPLE WORRIED ABOUT EVERYTHING NOW
(Seriously I WAS NOT EXPECTING THIS. I thought Green’s “fixing” of the Scarab was going to open Jaime up to be controlled by the Reach eventually, and his aggressive attitude during the fight was making me nervous, but I was not expecting Green to be a bad guy. Though honestly, I should have been, particularly given that M’gann was unwilling to full search his mind last week. And honestly, his arrival is looking REALLY CONVENIENT NOW. He showed up almost literally after M’gann has decided to stop brain-breaking people, which means she would not be willing to search his mind to discover he is a Reach agent and ughhhhh I HATE THIS SHOW.
And of course the underlying thing here is that I AM SUPER WORRIED ABOUT JAIME. I LIKE THAT KID. I WANT HIM TO BE OKAY, OKAY. I REALLY FREAKING DO.)
